Project 05 - Rough Draft

===============
Photo Set One
===============

Take a pair of digital photos of the same subject using two different ISO settings that demonstrate how different ISO settings can affect the way the photos turn out. As we discussed in class, when the ISO is changed from 100 to 1600 when you are using one of the automatic or semi-automatic shooting modes (Program mode or Aperture Priority mode), the shutter speed is automatically changed. In the examples below, the change in shutter speed is quite dramatic and the high ISO setting allows you to get a usable image.

Description: Here is someone's "Famous Mango Drink" from class on Monday night that was innovatively converted to a water bottle photographed at ISO 400...a little dark for indoors.

Photo Set Two
===============

Take a pair of digital photos of the same subject using two different white balance settings that demonstrate how different white balance settings can affect the way the photos turn out. For more information, refer to the information on white balance in this week's module.

Description: Here is my favorite non-human subject using the "Shade" White Balance setting on my camera. The photo is kind of yellowish.

If your camera allows you to change metering modes (the original sliver Canon Digital Rebels do not), try taking a pair of digital photos of the same subject using two different metering settings that demonstrate how different metering modes can affect the way the photos turn out.

=============
Photo Set One
=============

Photo One:
Take one image that shows an object in the foreground in focus and other objects in the background that are not in focus

Photo Description: This is a photo series of a table and chair that is in the College of Education. The first shot here is the closest that I could get.

File Name:  IMG_2263 - Table & Chair 01.JPG

Then without changing your distance to the objects, take a second photo of the same area in which the middle area of the field (between the foreground and background) is in sharpest focus and other areas (foreground and background) are not in focus

Photo Description: The photo here is the second shot in the series.

Photo Five:
Then without changing your distance to the subject, take a third photo of the same objects in which the area in the background is in sharpest focus, but other areas are not in focus

Photo Description: The photo here is the fifth shot in the series.

File Name:  IMG_2267 - Table & Chair 05.JPG

Focal Length:  18.0 mm
Exposure Program:  Manual
Flash:  Off, Did not fire

Photo Six:
Then without changing your distance to the subject, take a final photo of the same area in which all objects, (in the foreground, mid-ground and background) are in focus

Photo Description: The photo here is the last shot in the series. I had to change from a horizontal to a vertical to try and get everything in focus.

What Changed: The last time I did a series (the books) Rita, Trang and Caley all said that for my "all  in focus" shot, they could not tell the difference or that it was at the wrong angle. Hopefully I did better here.

Series Two (2)
==============

Photo One:
Take one image that shows an object in the foreground in focus and other objects in the background that are not in focus

Photo Description: This is a photo series of an acorn and a twig that I found on campus and decided to experiment on. I think the light from outdoors helped with the success of this series of photos. The photo here is the closest foreground focus that I could do.

Reason for the 2nd Series: I did this because although my "all in focus" shots have not been the greatest, I thought that this series did a great job at moving from one focus area to another.

Photo Set Two
=============
Take a pair of close-up digital photos at the closest focal point that your lens is able to focus.

Photo 05:
The first photo should show a background that is cluttered and distracting.

Photo Description: This is a shot of my son outside of the The Galleria ice skating rink.

What Changed: I think that this shot is a better representation of the idea behind the assignment rather than the last shot which tried to get the shot to fit the idea of the assignment.

Photo 06:
The second photo should show a more smooth and less distracting background.

Photo Description: Here is a shot that I took recently of a flower. I think it works nicely for this exercise.

Project 03 - Final Draft

1 photo taken with a tripod.

Photo Description: This is a shot of one of my favorite subjects on campus--the sculpture next to the MD Anderson Library. The ground served as my "tripod" for this shot. I like the lens flare and the streaking of the car lights on the right side of the photo. I think I left the shutter open for a couple seconds or so.

1 photo of the same subject taken without a tripod.

Photo Description: This was the same subject, just farther away. I think I put my camera on a random folding table that was out on the lawn, but this was not as stable as the ground since my camera might have tilted up and down a little when I was taking the shot.

1 photo taken with your camera set to automatic exposure.

Photo Description: This is one of the only shots t hat I have in this "batch" of photos where I used the "AE" setting. I was driving home after class on a Tuesday evening and took this shot as I was driving by the Campus Wellness Center.

1 photo taken with your camera set to manual exposure where you set the shutter speed and the aperture yourself.

Photo Description: I have some other shots of this subject, but this was my favorite one because the exposure was darker than the others. The architects/designers of the Welcome Center had some fun with this design. The exposed stairwells, the colors inside, and the lighting makes for a great subject.
